Welcome to the 85th Season
of the Carmel Music Society

In 1926, Dene Denny and Hazel Watrous, two women who had recently moved to Carmel, decided to enhance the cultural life of the Monterey Peninsula by creating a local concert association. Until that time, private recitals and the occasional touring concert sponsored by metropolitan booking agents were the only performances of music in the community.

Dene and Hazel experimented by booking their own concerts. And in so doing, these to visionary women laid the path for a rich tradition of classical music in Carmel.

The initial concerts were so successful that Hazel and Dene organized a group of local friends and music lovers to establish the Carmel Music Society - a non-profit organization devoted to bringing the finest talent in the classical music repertoire to Carmel. The Carmel Music Society, now incorporating the Mozart Society of California, presents an eight-month season of world-class performances, and for 35 years we also have sponsored a competition for aspiring young musicians.

Our concerts are presented in the superb acoustics of Carmel's Sunset Center (pictured in three of the photos on this page) and also in the more intimate setting of All Saints' Church, just one block away.

You may make a season ticket purchase for either the "Classical at Sunset" or the "Mozart Society Series" or both series combined, and join us in ensuring the future of our fine musical tradition.

If you are a Carmel visitor, single tickets are available for any concert. Call the office for details at 831.625.9938. On concert days come directly to the venue one hour before the performance.

Tickets are almost always available, and there is not an acoustically bad seat in either of our venues!
