Jae-In Shin, violin
Winner of the 2011 Carmel Music Society Instrumental Competition

A native of South Korea, Jae-In Shin was born in 1984 and began studying the violin at the age of five. She spent twenty-three years studying music at the Preparatory School of Korean National University of Arts, Yewon  Middle School, and Seoul Arts High School. Jae-In received her bachelor's degree at Yonsei University in Korea and served as concertmaster of UW Symphony and an assist, concertmaster of the Yonsei Symphony and of the Gloria Chamber Ensemble. On a full scholarship, Jae-In earned her Master's degree at Yale School of Music studying under Professor Hyo Kang. 

Ms. Shin has won numerous national competitions, including the Korea-Germany Music Competition, the Baroque String Competition, the Carmel Music Society Competition, the CBS Music Competition, and she has been a two-time winner of the Music Society Competition. She made her debut at the age of ten in a performance with the Daejeon Philharmonic which was broadcast on Korea Broadcasting Station.  She has also performed as a soloist with the Seoul Symphony, University of Washington Symphony, the Gloria Chamber Ensemble, and Washington Idaho Symphony. She has also appeared as soloist and chamber musician in the U.S. at Carnegie Hall-New York, New Haven, Pullman, San Francisco and Seattle; in Korea in Seoul, Dajeon, Busan and Jeju; in Courchevel, France; as well as in Hong Kong and Beijing. She is currently studying with Professor Ronald Patterson at University of Washington pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, pianist Brooks Tran began playing the piano at the age of seven. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance at the University of Washington under the tutelage of Patricia Michaelian. He has performed throughout the Northwest, including appearances at Meany Theater and Benaroya Hall in Seattle. In 2011, he won the annual UW Concerto Competition and was featured as a soloist with the University Symphony and the UW Wind Ensemble. Tran is an avid chamber musician, collaborating regularly with chamber music partners. He formed the Erös Trio in 2010, and has worked with internationally acclaimed groups, including the Claremont Trio and Cuarteto Casals. He is also the co-founder and associate artistic director of Parnassus Project, a chamber ensemble and series presenting a new, dynamic approach to the classical concert experience. Additionally, he is very involved with contemporary music, performing regularly with the UW Contemporary Group. Tran is currently pursuing his master's degree, studying with Craig Sheppard. Mr. Tran maintains a private teaching studio, and he is also involved in musical projects outside the classical world.
